Is it fun to be a recruiter?

  • Is it fun to be a recruiter?

Yes, it is definitely fun to be a recruiter if you are getting results, respect, appreciation, admiration, recognition, commission, bonuses, spot prizes from training competitions, earning your place on company meals out or on away days; and all expenses paid trips abroad to celebrate the best performances in a team. It can be really fun and a lot of that is down to the people in your team. You've got to have a GSOH, right?

However, a career in recruitment can also be not-so-fun if things aren't going well. That is always a risk because recruitment is a job which involves managing people. Your candidates and your clients all have their own free will (obviously, right?) which means that things don't always go to plan. Maybe you're working on a new type of vacancy you haven't fully understood, or you haven't had a full brief from your client, so your applications don't meet the client's expectations.

Maybe you've filled a position but your candidate has a change of heart and pulls out from one of your jobs without having the heart to tell you. They're only human, right? These challenges happen every day in recruitment and you've got to be mature enough to learn from them, deal with them and not let them affect your output of activity. Recruitment is the only profession where your customer can decide against buying your product AND YOUR product can decide against being sold!

Think about that for a moment...

There's a famous saying from a sports legend which goes something along the lines of:

"It's funny, the harder I work or more I practice, the luckier I get."

Wonder no more what recruiters actually do all day. Take a look at our “Day in the Life of” articles to see for yourself…
