Working in recruitment is like no other career!

When you start enquiring about recruitment consultant jobs and other career options in the world of recruitment, you'll be asked questions like:

  • What do you know about recruitment?

  • What do you know about sales?

  • What do you think the day-to-day work of a recruiter is like?

  • What targets have you worked towards in the past?

That's because recruitment is big business. According to global data-research-and-analytics company IBIS World, in data they published in January 2023; globally, HR & Recruitment Services are thought to be worth in the region of £610 billion.

In the UK alone, according to data published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (the REC) in November 2022, it's a whopping £43 billion quid!

No surprise then that companies who hire and employ Recruitment Consultants value qualities like:

  • Professionalism

  • Loyalty

  • Determination and resilience

And seek evidence of these qualities by trying to find people who are used to working hard and succeeding in hitting their targets; and improving their skills consistently over the long-term.

This is no surprise because it takes qualities like those to impress "decision-makers" (managers, senior managers, executive managers, board directors, managing directors and owners) of other companies, enough to want to become your clients.

Generally speaking, it is gaining new clients and developing (or rekindling) relationships with the existing (or past) clients of a recruitment agency, which is what it takes to build a profitable recruitment desk. That's how you contribute to an agency's success, instead of being a cost to your employer and that's what will make sure you really enjoy the many possible benefits of a career in recruitment. And there really are many benefits.
